With the help of accomplices from a Bucharest pharmacy, a woman created a veritable network for the sale of over-the-counter drugs.
With the help of her two sons and two daughters-in-law, the woman began selling hallucinogenic pharmaceuticals online.
One of these over-the-counter medications that is not available without a prescription is codeine.
To dismantle the network, police officers from the Targu Mureș Organized Crime Brigade, under the coordination of DIICOT Harghita, carried out 23 searches in 13 counties and in Bucharest.
The suspects are charged with high-risk, high-risk drug trafficking and possession of high-risk and high-risk drugs, without rights, for their own use.
More than 200 clients nationwide
DIICOT reports that, after the investigations, it was observed that the suspects illegally bought, in a pharmacy in Bucharest, medicines containing drugs or psychotropic substances, which legally require a special medical prescription.
Thus, say law enforcement officers, during 2019-2020 the suspects sold drugs of this type to more than 200 people in Romania, at prices significantly higher than the maximum prices for sale to the public, established by legal provisions.
“In the case, it was found that the leader of the criminal group is a suspect who led this activity through family members, in fact her two sons and two daughters-in-law.
As a way of operating, it was established that the suspects had several pages on a social network, each page with the name of a drug, to facilitate their discovery.
Among the drugs sold by the suspects, high-risk drugs were identified, namely codeine, a drug that can create hallucinogenic sensations, but also many negative effects on the body, ”the researchers said.
Postal parcel traffic
Regarding the delivery of these drugs, DIICOT shows that the products were shipped to the recipients via a Bucharest-based company, a company that has a delivery contract with a courier company that delivers drugs to recipients in Romania.
„For the proof of all the criminal activity, on October 23, 2020, prosecutors from DIICOT – Harghita Territorial Office together with judicial police officers from the Targu Mureș-SCCO Harghita Organized Crime Brigade conducted a series of 23 domiciliary searches within the radius Counties of Bucharest and Mureș, Vrancea, Argeș, Călărași, Sibiu, Neamț, Prahova, Buzău, Cluj, Constanța, Bihor, Bacău, Giurgiu, on the occasion of which the illegal possession of different quantities of drugs that contained narcotic or psychotropic drugs, several envelopes with substances that are indications that they are high-risk drugs (cocaine), cannabis in the form of buds and an indoor cannabis cultivation made up of 8 plants, “said the DIICOT prosecutors .
