The Intensive Care Unit of the Witting Hospital in Bucharest is, once again, at a dead end, after it was opened with difficulty, afterComplicated a month ago, when seven doctors were assigned here. However, the detachment expires today and the doctors have asked that they no longer want to stay. However, four of them will continue their work here, after the Emergency Situations Department extended their assignment for another two weeks.
One of the doctors explained to Digi24 the problems they faced during this period.
„One of the main reasons is the lack of middle staff, ie nurses. There are always two nurses on duty, one from Therapy, another from another department, Ophthalmo, Dermato, internal medicine, and things are going very, very hard.
Many times, as doctors, I took over the work of the nurses, certain procedures that I don’t even master at the moment. On the other hand, there would be the fact that until three days ago we did not have a mobile device for ventilation, to transport patients, for example, to CT, to take the image. The mobile radiology device is completely missing. I had patients that I called three days in a row to have them transferred to a hospital for dialysis. So we don’t have a dialysis machine“Said Emilia Văleanu, ATI specialist doctor.
„meu personally decided to stay here one more month. After all, it is a continuum of things. I mean we started together, we already know how things are going, but we have high hopes, we clearly need intensive care nurses. Intensive care anesthesia nurses. Currently, there are eight patients admitted to Intensive Care. We clearly need three therapy nursesShe added.
However, the doctor says that if the situation is not resolved, he will go away.
„If things don’t work out, they probably will. I don’t think I’m still in all these conditions“Văleanu said.
Cristian Banu, managerthe Spitaluluand Witting, told Digi24 that there are 4 specialist doctors whose assignment has been extended for a period of 14 days, but that the assignment order arrived at almost midnight.
„Today, the 4 doctors did not show up and it was only thanks to the goodwill of a doctor that we were able to continue caring for patients with ATI. At the moment, there is only one doctor who treats the 8 patients admitted to the ATI, because the 4 doctors did not show up. Apparently the order arrived too late, they did not know. I understand that however the boss informed them, there were probably communication problems, ”Banu said.
He added that the head of the ATI department cannot come to treat patients and that another doctor has flu symptoms but has a negative COVID test, so he stayed home.
Banu said that there are 8 nurses and 5 nurses with ATI experience and that another 8 nurses and 5 nurses were transferred from other wards.
„In fact, these nurses have no experience in intensive care, but they are not beginning nurses, ”she said.
Banu added that 40 positions for the hospital were put up for competition, but 27 nurses submitted their files, of which 17 are beginners.
„We try to do the training work through the veterans that we have here, but this can only be done by working, it cannot be done overnight, ”he said.
The Witting hospital manager says that under these conditions new patients cannot be admitted to ATI, even if 8 beds are not used, due to lack of staff.
