The Constitutional Court ruled this Thursday that the Government’s complaint against the duplication of allowances is unfounded and dismissed the appeal, say sources within the Court. The appropriations could only be doubled if the president enacts the law by which Parliament has decided to double this year’s appropriations again, after the government has staggered the doubling schedule until 2022.
The government decided, through an emergency ordinance, to gradually increase the allowances until 2022, but Parliament rejected the regulatory act, keeping the measure of doubling them in force. According to the government’s decision, the allocations have increased by 20% since September 1.
As a decision-making body, the Chamber of Deputies on August 19 rejected the Government’s Emergency Ordinance, which increased allowances by 20%. Subsequent, The government challenged in the Constitutional Court the law by which this GEO was rejected.
“We made the decision to increase the allocations in stages, to double them, but in stages, depending on the capacity of the budget to meet this new expense. In characteristic populism, PSD rejected this rational solution. We will defend our point of view, ”Prime Minister Ludovic Orban said at the time.
