As the prices of gasoline, diesel and cigarettes rise. The increases apply from January 1, 2021.

The Ministry of Finance published on Wednesday, December 2, the new level of excise duties valid from January 1, 2021. Gasoline, diesel and cigarettes will be the “champions” of the increases, after the Romanian Government decided increase excise duties.

In the case of unleaded gasoline, the excise duty level will increase by 53 lei, from 1,773.46 lei per 1,000 liters, as much as in 2020 to 1,827.13 lei per 1,000 liters in 2021. One liter of unleaded gasoline would be it was going to increase in this context by almost 6 bani.

And the price of gasoline and unleaded diesel will increase from the first day of next year. For leaded petrol, the excise duty level rises from 2,085.97 lei per 1,000 liters to 2,149.09 lei per 1,000 liters, and the price of a liter of leaded petrol rises at the pump, according to estimates, by 6 bani .

As for diesel, the excise duty will increase from 1,625.37 lei per 1,000 liters to 1,674.55 lei per 1,000 liters, which means that Romanians will take 5 more coins per liter out of their pockets.

And the excise tax on cigarettes will be increased from January 1, 2021 to 533.97 lei per thousand cigarettes, from 500.80 lei for the same number of cigarettes. Then, in a second stage, starting from April 1, 2021, smokers will pay even more, after the level of the excise tax on cigarettes rises to 563.97 lei.
