Raed Arafat made a premiere announcement on Digi24. The number of tests in Romania will increase. These are of the rapid antigen type, the result of which can be found in a maximum of 15 minutes. Romania has contracted 3 million units, and the first 300,000 will begin to be distributed to hospitals tomorrow, announces the head of DSU. However, Arafat points out that the antigen test will not be performed on asymptomatic patients, nor can an ambulance be requested at home for such a thing.

Raed Arafat: I say it for the first time. Starting tomorrow, we will begin to distribute the first 300,000 rapid antigen tests, nationwide, of the 3 million that have been contracted. Next week we will distribute another tranche.

This means that at the level of emergency services: emergency rooms, hospitals, maybe even at the level of ambulance services, the possibility of testing and getting a quick result will be much higher. Therefore, the tests will be more intense, more frequent and much larger than harvesting and waiting for the PCR the next day, or sometimes even the third day. In the rapid antigen test phase you will have the result in 15 minutes.

Until now, the rapid antigen test had to be confirmed by a PCR test. As far as we know, there are discussions at the European Commission level to recognize the rapid antigen test as equal to the PCR test, and there is no need for confirmation.

The 3 million tests are starting to roll in, the first 300,000 for Saturday to be distributed. Then we will have an increase in testing.

The test will be performed in symptomatic patients, not asymptomatic. Ambulance services will be obtained at another stage. Tomorrow we will distribute it to the emergency units, next week we will begin to provide ambulance services. And when you go to a symptomatic, you can take the test.

Let the world understand. We will not do tests on request, call the ambulance to test. Excluded. If you call us and we see that you have no symptoms, we will not test you, because that means that you are putting the emergency system in difficulties.

If someone with symptoms calls you at home, they are not feeling well, you try it, it is possible.
