ANSA: The “Our Father” prayer is changing from Sunday.

Our Father’s prayer will no longer be as we know it. It should be noted that for the other churches it will be time to discuss the new formulas until Easter 2021. Therefore, from the most famous prayer in the world, the verse “do not lead us into temptation” is eliminated, which becomes “no give up temptation ”.

How “Our Father” changes

An amendment that essentially refers to the translation of the original text into ancient Greek. Much desired by Pope Francis, the new version has already been adopted by other episcopal conferences in their respective languages.

Meanwhile, in light of Christmas, there could be a new protocol for the most listened to (and crowded) liturgy of the year. CTS and CEI could elaborate some indications, from the program to the presence, from the choirs to the processions. Among the problems to be solved, for example, is the program with a possible extension of an hour or two, for the afternoon of December 24, of the restrictive measures (today at 10:00 p.m.), in order to guarantee participation in the “Liturgy from midnight.” Rigorous controls must be carried out at entrances, respecting the maximum number of people who can stay in a church, guaranteeing social distancing for all. Indications could be imposed for people who can sit at the altar and for the choristers, Rador notes.

What Romanians in Romania say about changing the Lord’s Prayer

The spokesman for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese, Francis Doboș, gave information about the modification of the text of the prayer “Our Father” when the information became official.

As the Roman Catholics commented that in Italy a new version of the prayer “Our Father” will be used, the verse “And lead us not into temptation” will be replaced by the verse “Let us not fall into temptation.”

“The verse that is updated is And does not lead us to temptation. Each country tries, as it seems, to explain to the people that God is not the tempter, but we are the ones who should not give in to temptation, “said Francis Dobos.

He also explained that Romania will not adopt the change for the time being.

“In Romania, a decision has not yet been made, and if it is, it will be in the future, but there is no rush. Each country adapts when it thinks it is the best time to achieve this improvement. France has made this update in the past and now it is the turn of Italy. The Catholic Church in each country adapts and tries, when it considers it, to update the sentences, because language is a living organism and may no longer express the same meaning that once expressed the same words. (…) It is quite hot to say that prayer is changing. The Vatican does nothing, it is at the discretion of each country “, Doboș also explained.
