The National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE) launched this Monday a project that provides for the extension until March 31 of the period in which energy supply contracts can be entered into in the competitive market.

According to ANRE, the decision was made as a result of the need to ensure better information and that the process “is carried out for the benefit of the final consumer.”

Thus, according to the project, domestic customers will be able to sign supply contracts until March 31.

Given the impact of the electricity market liberalization process, as of January 1, 2021 on domestic customers, the need to ensure good information from last resort providers, as well as to ensure the necessary conditions for holding electricity supply contracts in compliance with the conditions. imposed in the context of the COVID 19 pandemic and for the process to be carried out for the benefit of the final consumer, the measure to extend until March 31, 2021 the period in which electricity supply contracts can be signed for that domestic customers benefit from the price of the competitive offer ”, ANRE announced.

ANRE submits to public consultation the Draft Order of Modification of the Order of the President of the National Energy Regulatory Authority no. 171/2020 for the approval of the electricity supply conditions by the providers of last resort. This Draft Order offers domestic customers the opportunity to choose the supply offer applicable from January 1, 2021 to March 31, 2021 “, It is displayed on the ANRE website.

The Energy Minister announced at the end of December that the period in which the population can opt for an electricity contract in the competitive market could be extended.

“As a ministry, we will wait until January 15 to see exactly how it works, after which, if necessary, we will even intervene legislatively, to help people find the best and cheapest solutions for the price of electricity and not automatically switch to an expensive universal service market, leave it there until they choose, otherwise, I would prefer that people switch directly to the competitive market, which is cheaper and later if they do not understand with the providers, if certain things don’t happen, being in the universal service market “said Virgil Popescu, in RFI.â

The electricity market has been liberalized since January 1, 2021.
