At least 80 Romanians have been confirmed with coronavirus in Germany. They all work in a slaughterhouse in North Rhine-Westphalia, in the west of the country. In total, 130 workers tested positive for coronavirus in that unit. The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs says that all Romanians feel good, they are kept under observation and they are accommodated in a hotel at the employer’s expense.

1,200 people work in that slaughterhouse, it is unclear how many of them are Romanian citizens. All employees have been tested for coronavirus and test results are awaited. The health authorities say that this situation has been reached, because the prevention rules were not observed in that unit in the case of SARS-CoV-2.

Employees did not wear protective equipment in work areas or locker rooms. In North Rhine-Westphalia, local authorities have decided to temporarily close several slaughterhouses and evaluate employees, and the locations where these new outbreaks occurred will be quarantined again. The situation at the Coesfeld slaughterhouse is not an isolated case in Germany. Recently, more than 240 Romanians, employed in slaughterhouses in this country, were confirmed with coronavirus.
