Two men aged 25 and 47 from Sfântu Gheorghe, Covasna County, were detained in pre-trial detention, after allegedly stealing money and various property from an Austrian citizen, whom they lured to Romania with the promise to marry a young woman, reports Mediafax.
Covasna police officers are investigating a criminal case of fraud, illegal deprivation of liberty, fraudulent financial transactions and theft.
On October 30, the police found two men, aged 47 and 25, in Sfântu Gheorghe, shortly after withdrawing a sum of money, using a bank card from a 46-year-old man, an Austrian citizen. , without your consent.
“From the investigations carried out by the police, it appears that the two had taken the Austrian citizen to Sfântu Gheorghe, with the promise that he would marry a woman, presented by them as the daughter of the 47-year-old man, respectively. His sister’s 25 years, a situation that did not correspond to reality ”, is shown in a statement from the IGPR.
The Austrian citizen allegedly paid the two, repeatedly, various sums of money, totaling approximately 7,000 euros.
In October, during the entire period he spent in Sfântu Gheorghe, “the victim’s right of movement was restricted for the two men, being able to move only in the vicinity and only with a companion.”
In addition, two televisions, a laptop and a mobile phone were stolen from the Austrian citizen, goods that were sold or pawned. The damage caused is approximately 8,600 euros.
The two men were detained by the police and were later placed in pre-trial detention by the Sfântu Gheorghe magistrates for 30 days.
