An 8-year-old boy from Buzau was admitted to intensive care infected with the SARS-Cov-2 virus. The boy was diagnosed with Kawasaki disease, a serious illness that could even be caused by the coronavirus.

“A child who arrived in serious condition, currently stationary, with a post-SARS-VOC-2 multi-system inflammatory disease. It can endanger the child’s life, it is a rare case, that I know there have been no cases of intensive care in Romania Pediatrics, “said Diana Ionescu, medical director of Gomoiu Hospital, as quoted by observatornews.ro.

The boy was transferred from Buzau to the Gomoiu Hospital in the capital.

Initially, only the child’s parents were diagnosed with COVID-19 and the child’s test came back negative. At the end of the week, the boy had a fever, was sleepy and had a headache, and his parents took him to the Emergency Department of Buzau Hospital.

The doctors suspected that he had menigoencephalitis and decided to transfer him to the Gomoiu Hospital in the Capital. Here he was retested for COVID-19, and this time the PCR test came back positive.

The boy was admitted to intensive care, but his condition is stable. However, the disease severely affected her lungs. He is being treated by a mixed team of doctors consisting of an anesthetist, a neurologist, a pediatrician and an infectionist.


He is the first child to arrive at ATI with the new coronavirus.
