At least 22 people, including students from a military school, lost their lives and two others were “seriously injured” in the crash of a military plane near Kharkov in eastern Ukraine on Friday night. new balance of the Interior Ministry in Kiev, reports AFP.

“The search for other people continues,” said Deputy Minister Anton Gherashchenko.
A total of 28 people were on board, including seven crew members and 21 students. “It is a shock. At the moment it has not been possible to determine the causes of this tragedy,” said Anton Gherashchenko.

The aircraft involved in the accident is an Antonov An-26 military aircraft. The plane crashed around 8:50 p.m. local time (5:50 p.m. GMT), two kilometers from the Ciuhuiv military airport, according to Ukraine’s state emergency service.
The plane caught fire after hitting the ground and the fire was extinguished within an hour.

The governor of the Kharkov region, Alexei Kucera, posted a message on Telegram about the accident, saying there were survivors, according to the dpa.
