Aleksei Navalny’s bank accounts have been blocked and his Moscow apartment is being seized, Kira Yarmysh, a spokesman for the Russian opposition, told the BBC. “They confiscated the property and apartment of a person in a coma.”

The assets of the Russian opposition leader were blocked on Aug. 27, in a lawsuit started by a close Kremlin official. A Russian court ruled in October 2019 that Aleksei Navalny and his associates must pay $ 1.4 million in damages in a defamation lawsuit. The decision to freeze assets was made while Aleksei Navalny was hospitalized in Germany after being poisoned in Russia.

Putin’s rival made a video questioning the quality of the products of Evgheni Prigojin’s company, known as “Putin’s cook,” after an outbreak of food poisoning broke out in Moscow schools in 2018. But in October, In 2019, a court ordered Navalny to remove the video and pay 88 million rubles in compensation for slander, arguing that it caused moral damage to the company.

In August, Prigojin had declared that “if Navalny surrenders his soul to God, I have no intention of persecuting him in this world (…) If he lives, he will have to respond with all the rigor of Russian law.”

Evgheni Prigojin is the owner of the catering company Concor that worked for the Kremlin. The businessman is suspected of having ties to a “troll farm” that Washington accuses of electoral interference, as well as participation in Wagner’s group of mercenaries.
