North of BucharestetIt was the night before one of the more pollutedme sitehate from the earth. Data provided by the air quality measurement team show that pollution reached higher levels in Otopeni, near the capital, than in Bangladesh. which is the most pollutedcountry of the world.

Global pollution data in 2020 shows that Bangladesh was the most polluted country, with an air quality index of 165. In Otopeni, this index reached 173 on Eve’s night.

All independent air quality monitoring platforms have detected large amounts of PM 2.5 particles, which are very harmful to the respiratory system.

The Aerlive platform detected exceedances of up to 100 migrograms per cubic meter in the Piața Romană and Iuliu Maniu areas, 4 times more than the permitted limit of 25 micrograms per cubic meter.

Representatives of the Environmental Guard say that they also found exceedances of the amount of PM10 particles in 3 stations in Bucharest, but that they were not significant. One likely cause, they say, is the heating of wooden houses in those areas.

The European Commission has so far started two infringement procedures on the air quality issue in Bucharest.
