A smart protective mask, equipped with temperature sensors and air filtration system, the concept of which was developed by a Romanian, was awarded in a contest to re-imagine protective masks organized by MIT Media Lab.

The mask, baptized Social mask, connects to a mobile phone application to check the proximity of the operator to other users and determine the possibility of a viral infection, according to the presentation on the contest website.

With a modern look, the mask can be made of polycarbonate or polypropylene, so as not to cause allergies.

The device was imagined by a Romanian, Ciprian Burzo.

“Connecting the mask to the mobile phone is a viable option for the future,” Cyprian said, according to The Calvert Journal.

“We must know who is infected in the area and receive information by telephone about which particles the biosensor detects in the environment. These are just some of the characteristics that the mask will have,” added Ciprian Burzo.
