Drug for COVID, manufactured in Romania. Cluj therapy will start from April 2021 the manufacture of favipiravir, an antiviral used for COVID-19, announces MEDIAFAX.
Cluj Therapy, the largest local drug manufacturer, announced that starting in April 2021 the production in Romania of favipiravir, an antiviral drug used to treat mild and mild symptoms of COVID, begins, writes Ziarul Financiar.
Production will be carried out in collaboration with another local pharmaceutical company, as the capacity of the Cluj factory is already contracted for the first six months of 2021.

FluGuard (favipiravir) is a prescription drug produced by Sun Pharma, a group that includes local manufacturer Terapia.
“It all depends on what happens if the vaccination begins, which we hope will be effective. Then the demand will decrease, but now it is a huge demand, the million doses that will be delivered from January have already been requested by ten hospitals,” he explained Dragoş Damian, CEO of Cluj Therapy.
The manufacturer that will manufacture the doses in a subcontracted system for Therapy will receive either the raw material or the tablets to take care of its packaging. To produce FluGuard locally, the drug containing the active ingredient favipiravir, the Therapy must obtain the approval of the local authorities.
In January 2021, 1 million doses of FluGuard will arrive in Romania, a capacity that will subsequently enter the country each month.
So far, Terapia has brought 770,000 favipiravir tablets to Romania, in several installments, the last batch to arrive on December 20. The doses were distributed to hospitals through Unifarm, for the treatment of more than 10,000 infected patients, according to the national standard treatment protocol approved by the Romanian authorities.

The local manufacturer will bring to the country in January an amount of 10,000 tablets of Ivermectin (Ivermectol), an antiparasitic drug with results in the prevention and treatment of COVID infection, also used in the United States.
This amount will cover the treatment of approximately 1,000 patients and will be donated to medical units treating COVID-19 patients.
