A Buddha Air flight flew to the wrong destination and the passengers found out after landing.

A domestic Buddha Air flight in Nepal transported passengers to the wrong destination, reports CNN.

The incident took place on December 18, and passengers who boarded a private operator’s flight at Tribhuvan International Airport in the capital Kathmandu only realized upon landing that they had been taken to the wrong city. The plane that would take them to Janakpur had flown to Pokhara, the second largest city in Nepal. The two cities are 400 kilometers apart.

According to Astha Basnet, an official at Buddha Air, the confusion occurred for two reasons: procedures were not followed and communication was poor.

Due to bad weather, many Nepalese airports start operating later in the winter. As schedules are shortened, many more flights take off in no time.

However, the situation was quickly resolved. Once Budhha Air realized that it was transporting passengers to another destination, they rebooted the plane and flew to Janakpur. There are no direct flights between Pokhara and Janakpur, but Buddha Air has permission to fly.

The 69 passengers arrived safely in Pokhara, but a few hours late.

Buddha Air is a private Nepalese company that began operating flights in 1997. Astha Basnet announced that as a result of this confusion, more training will be given to flight crews. These incidents still occur, but they are rare. In 2019, a British Airways flight that had taken off from London and was heading to Dusseldorf accidentally flew to Edinburgh.
