Florin Onescu was 34 years old and was originally from the Oltenian commune of Priseaca. He had recently finished a new specialization and was working with his brother, also a doctor, at the Drăgăşani city hospital, where he had held, since 1 December, a post of specialist in Radiology and Medical Imaging.
He felt bad before Christmas. He came to his parents’ house, they slaughtered the pig for Christmas and returned to Drăgăşani. He told his mother over the phone that he probably had a cold because he was sweating a lot. Besides, everything she made in the kitchen was too sweet. Before long, the symptoms became even more apparent and her health rapidly deteriorated. He worked that weekend, but on Monday his family took him to take the test and a specialized exam.

Initially he was treated at the Municipal Hospital of Caracal, then he was transferred to the Colentina Hospital of Bucharest. He died in the night between the years, the news of his death shocked the entire community.
“They tried all possible options, he went to Intensive Care, he did not respond to any treatment, that is what his brother told me, they were very close,” said Cristian Jandarmu, a colleague from Florin Onescu’s general school.
“We were classmates for eight years. A quiet boy. He was by far the winner of the class. Well, smart. He had been telling us about it since the teacher asked us what we wanted to do to be doctors. We all said doctor or policeman, but he really became a doctor. We were no longer colleagues in high school, he came to “Radu Greceanu” (ed. – an upper secondary school in Olt County), “said Cristian.

He followed his dream and had a beautiful career. “He was a resident doctor in Craiova and for a month he had been employed in the Drăgăşani hospital, where his brother is also, they were very close,” revealed the doctor’s former colleague. Colleagues at Drăgăşani hospital are also shocked by what happened. They lit candles for him in the radiology department where he worked and he still does not accept that Florin’s dream was broken so early.

“I’m not going to tell you what their mother is like, she worked so hard to raise them, she raised animals … And they, the children, worked a lot, also in agriculture, and where it was needed. Like all of us, at that time we worked in the fields, we went with the animals, we worked in the house, we went to collect hay, where it was needed. Three very good and hard-working children, calm, the oldest is an engineer, he, the middle, a doctor, the youngest is also a doctor. I was talking to the little boy, he was still coming to football. I went to his parents’ house. My mother won’t stop crying. The father does not express himself, he suffers in silence, but you realize how much he suffers. It is a great pain, which parents are not going to get rid of in their entire lives, ”Cristian Jandarmu also said.
The corpse of the young doctor will be transferred on Monday, January 4, to his hometown. However, the funeral will be held according to the specific protocol for patients who died from COVID-19, with a limited number of participants and no ceremony at home.
