A trivial antiviral nasal spray could prevent the coronavirus from reaching the lungs, at least that’s what British scientists say, according to the Daily Mail.
The drug, called Neumifil, was developed as a treatment for the flu and respiratory problems. The researchers determined that it could also be effective against the coronavirus.

A study by the University of St. Andrews in Scotland shows that Neumifil prevents the coronavirus from attaching to cells of the respiratory system. The drug blocks the virus’s interaction with ACE-2 receptors, through which SARS-CoV-2 enters the body.
Some researchers suggest this is why far fewer smokers have developed severe forms of the disease: Nicotine is speculated to reduce the number of ACE-2 receptors, thereby blocking the virus from accessing the body.
