It is known that this is not a joke with the work in Japan and this was noticed, once again, by several employees who allowed themselves to leave work two minutes before so as not to miss the bus that took them home.
According to sankei.com, the situation was reported by the Funabashi City School Board, Chiba Prefecture.
To justify their “early” departure, the employees explained that they did not want to miss the bus that would take them home earlier. Thus, they left two minutes before 5:15 p.m., when their program ended, so that they could be at the station at 5:17 p.m., the time the bus that took them home arrived. If they missed it, they would have to wait another half hour for the next one to arrive.
In total, between May 2019 and January 2021, there were 316 cases in which employees, some in number, left work earlier, the School Board reported. An intolerable situation for the management, who warned that among those who “avoided” working hours was a 59-year-old woman in charge of managing the presence.
In addition, it is suspected that it was she who took the initiative and the worst thing that is blamed is that she had the idea of falsifying the attendance cards. Thus, these employees who left earlier left the cards of their remaining colleagues at work to tell them that they were leaving at the scheduled time.
As a result, because she made others follow her example, the woman woke up with a 10 percent pay cut for three months. According to the Japanese press, the money saved by the institution through this penalty is equivalent to 1,090 euros.
The other employees, including those who clicked the attendance cards instead of the “chiulangies”, received only warnings.
The decision caused outrage on social media, especially since some of these employees came to work early in the morning, but that didn’t bother anyone. In this case, why are the extra minutes not paid? social media users commented.
However, this is not the first time such harsh penalties have been imposed in Japan for seemingly non-serious acts. In 2018, uAn official from the Japanese city of Kobe was reprimanded and fined for taking a lunch break 3 minutes earlier. And because it happened 26 times in seven months, their bosses held a press conference and apologized to citizens, the press wrote at the time.
