After the failed mission in Oneşti ended with two murders, now several Bucharest law enforcement officers are accused of torturing two men. This came after the victims dared to reproach the agents for not wearing a protective mask on the street during the missions. 8 of the 9 police officers involved were arrested.
The two men, aged 39 and 51 respectively, still remember with horror the experience they had in September.
People say they were on their way home after spending a few hours in the old town. It was after midnight, and in the Apăratorii Patriei metro station area, they were stopped by a section 16 law enforcement team. Routine screening took another turn after victims recklessly blamed police for not using protective mask.

They handcuffed me, dragged me across the floor, put me in the car, sprayed my nose with paralyzing spray, then took me to the field, applied a good correction. They punched me in the ribs, they dragged me across the ground, they flipped me on both sides. An older police officer was the most aggressive. “
Those who investigate the whole story say that the agents beat a young man for 30 minutes, during which they repeatedly hit him on the head, hands and feet, but also on the area of the palms and soles. At the same time, they claim, one of the defendants subjected the victim to degrading treatment. Full of bruises, the man still made it home where he asked for help. He also issued a forensic certificate confirming that he needed 30 days of medical attention.
That was while they handcuffed their friend and then threw him into the police car on metal wheels.
Teodor Gheorghe, victim: “He sprayed me on the nose and threw me on the car seat, between the wheels, face down. They took me somewhere in the countryside, through Zeţari. They abandoned me there. “
One by one, the accused officers were identified. 9 in number. Between them and a police union leader, who according to prosecutors was the one who instigated his colleagues to apply the violent correction to the two men. Two policemen were also present who would have watched the harsh scenes without intervening and without stopping the abuses.

Of the nine police officers, eight were initially detained for 24 hours and one received judicial review. Only 7 were finally brought before the judge with a proposal for preventive detention, after the detention was suspended and the judicial control measure was instituted for another suspect.
Due to the accusations against them, illegal deprivation of liberty and above all torture, two of the most serious crimes in the penal code – only murder cruelly surpasses them – Article 16 police officers run the risk of being found guilty, with more 10 years in prison.
