According to some judicial sources, Dragnea would be charged with influence peddling, in the record of his visit to the United States at the inauguration of President Donald Trump, which took place in January 2017.

The visit made by Liviu Dragnea and former PSD Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu to the United States of America in January 2017, when they participated in the inauguration ceremony of President Donald Trump, drew the attention of US investigators.

Thus, in 2019 a rogatory commission was formed, through which the US authorities requested information in Romania about Dragnea and Grindeanu.

In September 2019, Romania’s ambassador to the US, George Maior, was heard at DNA in this case. Upon leaving the hearings, Maior confirmed that he was heard as a witness in the record of Liviu Dragnea’s visit to the United States in 2017.

“I was summoned as a witness, in relation to the record of the visit of the former president of the Chamber of Deputies in the United States. For a long time I wanted to come, it was a very pleasant discussion with the prosecutors. Since December 2018, Liviu Dragnea stated that she is aware of new criminal cases on her behalf and on behalf of Calin Popescu Tariceanu.
