Facebook returns with clarifications on the new conditions of use of WhatsApp, scared by the exodus of users

Facebook seeks to clarify the situation and reassure users who have already begun to take the path of competing products, after the hurricane caused by the new mandatory clauses in the terms of use of WhatsApp.

Facebook is using the company’s social media accounts to try to stem the tide of users who started giving up WhatsApp and switched to Signal and Telegram. In parallel, company executives also came out with similar messages, betraying a slight panic.

WhatsApp Facebook and Twitter accounts talk about end-to-end encryption and that, therefore, messages and calls between users cannot be seen by the American company.

On the other hand, Adam Mosseri and other Facebook executives published messages explaining that the new clauses refer to messages sent by users to companies, not to messages exchanged strictly between users.

The anti-Facebook wave has already helped two of the most popular competing apps grow more than usual in recent days.

Signal counted 810,000 new users on Sunday, 18 times more than on a typical day. The large number of new users has created problems for Signal, which has warned that the registration process is delayed because of this.

Telegram has grown even more spectacularly, with more than 500 million active users, after obtaining more than 25 million new users in the last 24 hours.

Both applications have reached the top of the App Store and Google Play lists after the performances of the last few days.
