northBritain’s egg strain was laboratory confirmed in a 27-year-old woman from Giurgiu who arrived in the guard room of the Matei Balş Institute on Sunday.
ASamples were collected and analyzed, and today it was confirmed infection with this strain.
The woman has mild symptoms and is not hospitalized. An epidemiological investigation is now underway, because the woman has not been abroad and has not traveled to the UK. DSP is trying to find out who the woman came into contact with and who she may have been infected with.
„If the information provided by the patient is true, it means that the virus is already circulating in Romania. And it is much more contagious. We can expect an increase in the number of cases, “Dr. Cătălin Apostolescu, spokesman for the Matei Balș Institute, told B1 TV.
There was another suspicion of infection with the new strain in another patient last week, but laboratory tests have not confirmed this.
The British strain is more contagious than the original, but does not produce a more serious form of the disease.
