Samuel Little, 80, was pronounced dead at 4:53 a.m., but the official cause of death has yet to be determined. Authorities said he had been ill for some time, according to NBC News.

Little served three life sentences for killing three women in Los Angeles in the 1980s, but he confessed to several murders across the country, and the FBI named him the most prolific serial killer in American history.

Little eventually confessed that he strangled 93 women between 1970 and 2005.

He was first convicted of killing the three women in Los Angeles in 2014. Little lived as a nomad and generally targeted women involved in prostitution or drug trafficking, according to the FBI. Former boxer, beat and strangled his victims.

The confessions began in 2018 after Little was interviewed by Texas Ranger James Holland, who was seeking information about an unsolved crime in Odessa, according to the FBI.

In October 2019, FBI officials said Little’s confessions were credible in 93 murders and verified 50 of them.

The number of murders Little has confessed to has surpassed that of other notorious serial killers. Gary Ridgway was convicted of 49 murders and testified another 20. Ted Bundy and John Wayne Gacy killed more than 30 people each, but Bundy was suspected of being multiple.
