The Archbishop of Tomis continues to defy the rules of the pandemic. His Holiness Theodosius will celebrate the New Year’s service at midnight, contrary to the recommendations of the Romanian Patriarchate, which requested that services not take place after 23:00.
The night quarantine is valid throughout the country. Citizens cannot drive between 11:00 PM and 5:00 AM without good reason.
In addition, the city of Constanța is under quarantine until the night of January 1, 2021.
His Eminence Theodosius announced, however, in a statement that at 11:15 p.m. he will officiate the Te Deum service, specific to the New Year, in the Archiepiscopal Cathedral of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul in Constanța. This, although the Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, Daniel, had announced that this service will begin earlier, immediately after Vespers, in order to comply with the traffic restrictions in force during the alert state.
His Eminence Theodosius does not take into account the recommendation of the high prelate and does not want to organize the service before, but around midnight.
It remains to be seen how the forces of order will react tonight, after some 300 people attended the official Christmas service of His Eminence Theodosius, and the authorities gave no sanction and left the faithful inside the cathedral.
