The Cîţu government decides to freeze wages. The decision is made at the last meeting this year. Those most affected are teachers and medical assistants. In the last 6 years, doctors ‘salaries have doubled and teachers’ salaries have increased by more than 120%. The ordinance has yet to receive an opinion from the Legislative Council.
Felicia is nearing the end of her teaching career. A salary increase under the law would have benefited her in retirement. She says she also caught illegal pay cuts from the Basescu regime. So it was torment and humiliation. Felicia is convinced that any of her teammates will step back to be okay.
“The same struggle and torment are likely to begin here. Certain categories have always been sacrificed, it is difficult for everyone; it is not difficult just for education. Nobody asked us if we have the equipment at home, if we can assume the net expense ourselves, if we don’t freeze for hours in front of the personal computer, because nothing else could be done ”, he says.
“We were soiled once, in September, by those in education. Teachers should have taken a net 300 lei raise,” says Simion Căncescu, president of FSLI.
The teachers’ representatives are now awaiting the decision of the Constitutional Court on the salary increases. The court will rule in January, after the notification made by PNL.
And medical personnel feel cheated by the government. SANITAS Pope Iulian says that he wrote to Orban himself because he made promises to them. Everything falls, the former prime minister told them that he would maintain at least the growth rate set by the unit wage law. This was an aid to the auxiliary staff, nurses, caregivers, medical physicists, who have not seen a salary increase since 2018.
“A caregiver has a fairly low salary, even lower, say, compared to a salesman in the supermarket, and this position is not very attractive,” says Bogdan Tănase, a doctor.
“Employees of the health system and the health system feel cheated by the government for the first time. Probably after the holidays we will start the year on the street, because it is unacceptable”, adds Iulian Pope, vice president of SANITAS.
