Seven COVID-19 patients died in a fire at a hospital north of Cairo on Saturday, a drama that has prompted authorities to open an investigation to determine the causes, according to security and judicial sources.
Five other people were injured in the fire, which broke out in a hospital in the town of Obour, near the capital.

The causes of the fire were not established immediately and “the Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation,” according to the sources cited.
Firefighters were dispatched to intervene and control the fire, local press writes, according to news.ro.

Egypt, a country of 100 million people, has officially registered 130,000 infections with the new coronavirus and more than 7,300 deaths from covid-19.
The pandemic has put Egypt’s infrastructure and healthcare system to the test, aging and overwhelmed by the large number of cases.

Medical staff unions have warned of the possibility of a total collapse of the health system.
In June a fire broke out in a hospital in Alexandria (north), killing seven patients with covid-19 and injuring seven others.
