Adi-Maria Luminita Simoiu was elected, by unanimous vote, President of the Green Party in the February 2019 Congress, and Constantin Damov was appointed Executive President and Secretary General, Silviu Dumitru.
Simoiu convened the party’s National Council for June 15, 2019 in Sibiu, following consultations with CN members. Also for June 15, 2019, the Executive President and Secretary General convened the National Council in Bucharest.
While Adi-Maria Luminita Simoiu appeared in Sibiu, along with other members of the National Council, another parallel National Council was held in Bucharest, where it was decided to suspend her from her post and assume her functions by the Executive Chairman. At the same time, it was decided to convene a congress of the Green Party for July 20, 2019, in which a new president will be elected, in the person of Florin Calinescu.
Simoiu challenged in court the decisions made by the National Council convened in Bucharest invoking the violation of the legal provisions, and the Bucharest Court admitted his request after a trial of approximately one and a half years, ruling after five postponements, after parliamentary elections.
In this year’s local elections, Simoiu, who was suspended from the post of chairman of the Green Party, ran as an independent candidate for the Craiova City Council.
