Dr. Alexandru Rafila, representative of Romania in the World Health Organization, said that there are very few diseases that contraindicate vaccination against COVID-19, being acute diseases, febrile diseases. He says that people with a minor cold will be able to get vaccinated, as well as those who have already been through the disease, but for the latter the recommendation is to get vaccinated two or three months after COVID-19 infection.
“There are very few diseases that contraindicate vaccination, we are talking about acute diseases, febrile diseases, but only if these febrile diseases are very serious. A simple cold is not a contraindication to vaccination, even people who have a minor cold can get vaccinated. The only problem that is not related to an absolute contraindication, but to the efficacy of the vaccination, are people who are immunosuppressed by treatment or disease and for whom the vaccine would find it more difficult to produce an immune response. This does not mean that these people cannot be vaccinated, on the contrary, they can be vaccinated but sometimes the results are not so spectacular, ”Alexandru Rafila told Digi24, News.ro reports.
When asked if people with autoimmune diseases will be able to get vaccinated against COVID-19, Rafila said that this category of people should consult with their current treating physician.
They can consult with their current treating doctor because these autoimmune diseases are chronically treated with various drugs, but this vaccine, unlike other classical ones, which contain adjuvants, does not contain it and is simply a small portion of messenger RNA that leads to synthesis in our body of a protein similar to the viral, so we are not talking about adjuvants or substances that test the immune system in particular. Rather, in people who have quite severe allergies, those people should be administered with caution, but even those people should not be excluded from vaccination, of course, if they so wish, “Rafila said.

The doctor recommended that those who have already been through the disease also get vaccinated.
“Yes, they can be vaccinated (those who have already had COVID-19 – no), there is currently no exact specification, but my advice is to have a certain time interval from the moment of infection to the moment of vaccination because It is good to let this cycle of natural immunity that occurs as a result of the disease occur, and then the administration of the vaccine will only strengthen the immunity obtained by the infection. An interval of 2-3 can be taken into account for vaccination months after infection, ”said Rafila.

Alexandru Rafila added that he himself will receive his vaccine between March and April, because he has just undergone the disease and first wants natural immunization.
