The Alliance for the Union of Romanians appealed to the Constitutional Court the decision of the Chamber of Deputies by which Ludovic Orban was elected president of the forum. The RCC judges set the deadline to discuss the notification on January 14.
“We are protesting against the way in which the leadership of the Chamber was appointed last night at 2:00 p.m., being serious abuses, usurping some official qualities. We had the president of the Chamber of Deputies, the former dean, who declared the session closed. According to the rules, a new meeting had to be called. This did not happen. Our parliamentary group has not been convened, “AUR president George Simion said, according to Agerpres.
The leader of the PNL deputies, Gabriel Andronache, requested, on Monday night, that the plenary session be extended, after the deputies take the oath, for the election of the president of the Chamber. The AUR representatives opposed this approach and the meeting chair, representing the Alliance for the Union of Romanians, closed the meeting and left the rostrum.
After several contradictory discussions, the AUR representatives left the meeting room. Subsequently, the plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies resumed on Monday evening, and another senior dean, Iusein Ibram from the group of national minorities, was chaired by the Speaker of the Chamber and the other members of the Permanent Office were elected.
The president of the PNL, Ludovic Orban, was elected president of the Chamber of Deputies with 179 votes, while his opponent, Alfred Simonis, supported by the PSD, obtained 110 votes.
