New government, three weaknesses, three strengths Ion M. Ionita

Weaknesses

The coalition brings two main forces, PNL and USR, significantly equal in weight in dividing the main political positions. It is no longer about a big party and a junior or more who is content with what is offered. The big two, PNL and USR, haven’t had very good relationships in recent years. The rivalries, barely overcome, will explode, taking into account the exacerbated pride of some characters who have now come to believe that everything depends on them. This will make it even more difficult for Florin Cîţu to head the future government, a prime minister who will not have the power to be party chairman. Politically, Cîţu will be guarded by the two deputy prime ministers USR and UDMR, in addition to his own party leader, Ludovic Orban.

NLP and USR come to power with great internal frustrations. Liberals are unhappy with the results obtained by Ludovic Orban in the negotiations. They are important leaders who are very disappointed with the portion that remains on the table for liberals. Ludovic Orban faced, for the first time, a coup attempt against him. Poorly organized, the movement was easily thwarted by the experienced Liberal leader, but the situation did not subside even on the surface, as evidenced by the reaction of Alin Tişe, chairman of the Cluj County Council. Transylvanian organizations are among the most vehement and they have reason. Many unsuspecting figures took office and brought down the party. Now, Transylvanian organizations also claim to be underrepresented. On the other hand, the electoral results could not lead to a better result of the negotiations. Ludovic Orban is accused of putting personal interests before the interests of the parties. But the interests of the party would have been defended much better, if the PNL had had 35%, not 25% in the elections. Who is responsible for this, the liberals have not yet established. But the subject will return.

USR is a formation full of faults and internal conflicts. The plus of Ciolos adds a component that has not been integrated into the party philosophy of the users. Internal conflicts, the grinding of energies in personal disputes, the display of all frustrations in public cannot contribute to the strength of the coalition. See.

Strengths.

The constitution of the majority. Eight years later, another government was needed. It was necessary both for the center-right parties and for the PSD, which has time for its own internal reforms, if it wants to make them. President Iohannis manages, in the sixth year of his presidency, to stop dealing with a hostile government. It will also have a new government backed by a parliamentary majority. The two branches of the Executive, the Presidency and the Government, can work together to carry out ambitious reforms. Although this harmonization is not guaranteed in itself.

The new government will have the support of two major European families, the EPP and Renew Europe. It is no small feat, especially since Dacian Cioloş even leads Renew Europe, the third political force in the Brussels Parliament.

The PNL-USL Plus-UDMR government will have funding from the European Union to take a leap in the development of Romania. The 80,000 million euros provide a unique opportunity and the ability of the new government to use this money quickly depends on the future, not only economic, but also political, of the country.
