The Social Democratic Party will not participate in today’s consultations with President Klaus Iohannis on the appointment of the prime minister, according to Digi24.ro sources.
The delegation headed by Marcel Ciolacu will no longer participate today in consultations with the head of state. PSD was the first party called, at 3:00 p.m.
“So there is no point in going. The decision has already been made,” declared a PSD leader for Digi24.ro.
In a speech on Digi24, PSD senator Robert Cazanciuc specified that “in principle” the decision not to participate was made, but party leaders have not yet made an official decision: “Until 3:00 pm, everything is possible.”
The meetings between President Klaus Iohannis and the party leaders had the following hours: PSD at 3:00 p.m., PNL at 3:30 p.m., USR PLUS Alliance at 4:00 p.m., GOLD at 4:30 p.m., UDMR at 5:00 p.m. and representatives of national minorities at 5:30 p.m.
The PNL-USR PLUS-UDMR coalition formed a majority and announced that it would propose Florin Cîțu.
Robert Cazanciuc: Until 3:00 p.m. everything is possible
PSD senator Robert Cazanciuc confirmed the information published by Digi24.ro, but specified that no official decision was made, and until 3:00 pm “everything is possible.”
“Do you think that what the President of Romania is doing is in spirit with the will of the Romanian people?” President Iohannis was actively involved in the formation of the coalition. For this reason PSD has nothing to look for (in queries, ed.). It seems that our proposal, Alexandru Rafila, did not fulfill the vision of the president ”, said Robert Cazanciuc, in Digi24.
Asked, however, if PSD decided not to participate in the Cotroceni consultations, he said that “it was a discussion of principle, until now. The decision will be made by the party leadership. Until 15:00 everything is possible. But in principle, the presence of the PSD does not seem necessary for the President of Romania ”.
He recalled former President Traian Basescu, whom he said had “misinterpreted the Constitution” and created conflicts. “Today, December 22, we cannot talk about the good faith interpretation of the constitution by the President of Romania,” added the PSD senator.
“If the PSD received a mandate to form a majority, it would have been formed. We can argue for the sake of discussion,” with the other parties, Cazanciuc also said.
Asked about what actions the PSD had for the formation of a majority, given that no party can govern alone, the PSD senator acknowledged that “we cannot speak of a serious approach.”
“Here we are talking about a mandate by which the country should be governed as the Romanian people wanted. We have no way to negotiate, as we have not received a court order. We try to stay strictly connected to the fundamental law. Why do we hold the elections if those from Vila Lac 1 lead Romania? ”Cazanciuc added.
