The scandal is far from over in the Popular Movement Party. The PMP was on the verge of losing its entry into the Romanian Parliament and the resignation of Eugen Tomac as head of the party and the convocation of the extraordinary Congress did not calm the spirits. Elena Băsescu, the youngest daughter of the former president of Romania and founder of PMP, Traian Băsescu, notifies him and publicly threatens that if he does not retract what he said about her, he will go to court. All after Mihai Neamțu in a long indictment shows the president’s little girl as a clear example of “nepotism and clientelism” by putting her on the PMP lists for parliamentarians and therefore one of the reasons why the PMP could not enter the Romanian Parliament.

“7) Favoritism, nepotism and patronage. In addition to a handful of honorable candidates, with very good scores in the Republic of Moldova, Maramureș, Bistrița or Timiș, we deal with anonymous convicts, invalidity or former criminals. The nut in the cage at the head of the party was the candidacy of a lady (and a mother) whom I respect, but who did not have electoral traction: Elena Băsescu. Did I send the voters a message about meritocracy? It was the political gesture that made the difference: on December 6, the party fell below the electoral threshold.“Mihai Neamțu wrote in his analysis.
Elena Băsescu’s response was violent: she posted on her Facebook page a Notice from a lawyer showing that she was subjected to attacks and insults that are difficult to go through because she is harmed as a citizen and as a mother and that by entering her name in this context only he intended to give even more media weight to Mihai Neamțu’s attack. Therefore, she publicly asks Mihai Neamțu to retract what was said about her, otherwise she will go to court.
