According to USR-PLUS political sources, the functions of the new Government would be divided as follows:
Prime Minister: Florin Cîţu (PNL)
President of the Chamber of Deputies: Ludovic Orban (PNL)
Vice Premier: Dan Barna (USR)
President of the Senate: Anca Dragu (PLUS).
On the other hand, NLP sources revealed to Adevărul that USR-PLUS is pressing for parity in the ministries and that, in addition to Justice, Finance and Development must be in their hands. Negotiations on the ministries will continue, however, as the PNL tries to gain as much weight as possible, while the UDMR demands two or three ministries, already expressing its interest in Culture and the Environment.
Ludovic Orban, Dan Barna and Kelemen Hunor gave a joint statement Thursday after a meeting to negotiate the formation of a governing coalition. The PNL leader said that the three parties decided to continue the talks, the USR leader specified that each party expressed its negotiating mandate and some flexibility, and the UDMR leader stated that all solutions remain on the table.
In the negotiations that took place yesterday, the PNL leadership raised two options: 1) Prime Minister Ludovic Orban and Florin Cîţu, head of the Senate; 2) Prime Minister Florin Cîţu and President of the Chamber of Deputies Ludovic Orban. On the other hand, USR-PLUS had not agreed on one of the two options proposed by the Liberals and presented its own proposals: 1) Prime Minister Dacian Cioloş and both positions of Head of Parliament in the PNL; 2) Prime Minister Florin Cîţu and Dan Barna president of the Chamber of Deputies.
The third partner of the coalition, UDMR, had previously announced it. As for the prime minister, he can work with both Ludovic Orban and Florin Cîţu. “In addition, things are complicated, because for the moment we consider that the other two political positions in the state – that of president of the Senate and president of the Chamber of Deputies – must belong to the other two parties that do not come with the prime minister” Kelemen said. Hunor.
The parties begin to be “flexible”
Ludovic Orban said this Thursday, after meeting with the other three political leaders, that “all options are on the table” and stressed that “there is no time limit” to resolve the situation, although there is still no budget project or that the pandemic does not seem to end too soon. Dan Barna seemed more optimistic: “Each side has expressed some flexibility in finding that common ground through which to form the coalition,” Barna said.
