The minister said that very soon, the first 10,000 doses will be used to immunize medical personnel in hospitals from infectious diseases. The first doses to reach Romania will reach the vaccination of 5,000 people.

Nelu Tătaru explained that employees of infectious disease hospitals will be vaccinated even if they contracted the disease at some point. The only impediment would be that the person was sick with COVID-19 at that time.

How the new vaccine will be brought in and distributed

The minister also said that the manufacturing company, Pfizer, will transport the vaccine to Romania. Subsequently, the vaccine doses will be stored in special freezers, one in Bucharest and another five spread throughout the country, usually in military hospitals.

From there, the doses of the product developed by Pfizer and BioNTech will be transported to the vaccination centers. Nelu Tătaru specified that the vaccine can remain at normal temperatures for a few days, so there will be no logistical problems.

He also said that vaccination centers will be set up separately from hospitals, with doctors who will screen patients for allergies or other health problems and nurses who will actually inject the substance.

The vaccine will not be administered at first by family doctors, in their offices, but only in vaccination centers, said Health Minister Nelu Tătaru.

He also explained that, after the first dose, at 28 or 21 days, depending on the product used, the booster is performed, that is, the second dose of vaccine.

In the capital, a major vaccination center could be organized in Romexpo.

How many people could we test for COVID-19?

Nelu Tătaru also spoke about the number of tests, saying that we would have a greater testing capacity in terms of devices for TC-PCR, but the number of tests performed also depends on the personnel using the devices, but also simply “request”, it is that is, the number of people who are sent after epidemiological investigations to carry out the test and the number of people who carry it out on their own initiative.
