Traian Băsescu is being criminally investigated in an investigation by the General Prosecutor’s Office in the case of false statements of non-cooperation with the Securitate, which he presented under his own responsibility before becoming president, parliamentarian and MEP, reports Antena3. The decision follows a complaint filed by the Political Research Group (GIP) on July 13, 2020.
GIP notified the Public Prosecutor’s Office regarding the fact that Traian Băsescu declared under his own responsibility that he did not collaborate with the Securitate in 2004 and 2009, when he ran for the presidential elections, in 2016, when he ran for the Romanian Parliament and in 2019, when he ran for the European Parliament.

Taking into account the decision of the Bucharest Court of Appeal of September 20, 2019, which found the quality of Traian Băsescu as a collaborator of the Securitate, it is logical that Băsescu lied in all his statements under his own responsibility, stating that he did not collaborate With the Securitate.
The judge ruled that Basescu-Petrov “denounced activities or attitudes contrary to the totalitarian communist regime, and the supply of information was aimed at restricting human rights and fundamental freedoms.”
The decision of the Court of Appeal found an existing legal situation: Traian Băsescu knew that he was an informant for the Securitate and, however, declared under his own responsibility that he did not collaborate with the Securitate.
Basescu presented as true a false act (his failure to cooperate with the Securitate as a political policeman) to obtain through fraud and perjury the functions of president, parliamentarian and European parliamentarian.
