First 10,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine expected in Romania after Christmas

Asked on Digi24 about when the vaccine would arrive in Romania, Dr. Valeriu Gheorghiţă replied that, if the marketing authorization is issued on December 23, the first Christmas doses will probably be delivered between Christmas and New Years. vaccine in Romania and in fact you can start the vaccination intended mainly for medical personnel in hospitals in the first line.

From the moment of delivery, the vaccine can be administered in an interval of one to two days, added the president of the National Coordinator of Vaccination Activities.

When asked if there is an exact figure regarding the doses, Valeriu Gheorghiţă replied: “We have an estimate related to the Pfizer company. From the moment you receive the authorization, we are talking about an initial tranche of up to 10,000 doses of vaccine, which means almost 5,000 people who can be vaccinated, but this is a symbolic tranche that will be distributed the same day in the 27 of the member states of the European Union, but the other doses will be delivered from January. Basically, by January we should receive about 600,000 doses, which reach 300,000 people, then this amount increases from month to month.

Regarding the preparation of the vaccination centers, the doctor said that at the Cantacuzino Institute level, in terms of facilities and storage space, things are almost complete. The storage rooms are also ready, and the distribution of freezers begins in the country at the end of this week and will continue the next.

The list of centers will be finalized by Thursday at the latest.

“I prefer fewer and better organized centers than the small, fragmented centers, where the activity is difficult and with few people. This makes the distribution chain very difficult, ”said the doctor.
