The French press writes that the incident took place on Saturday night, in Antony, Hauts-de-Seine, a small city of more than 60,000 inhabitants located in the southern suburbs of Paris. Three peaceful passersby were suddenly attacked on the street by a man with mental health problems. He pounced on them with a knife and seriously injured them. Two of the three victims were Romanian citizens, and one of them ended up in intensive care in critical condition, but doctors managed to save his life.
The French point out that they are a 19-year-old man and woman, whose identity was unknown and who were still in intensive care on Tuesday, December 15. The third victim, 59, remains hospitalized.
Representatives of the Nanterre Prosecutor’s Office, cited by the BFM Paris portal, reported that it was an assassination attempt “on the grounds of race, ethnicity and religion.” He confessed to the investigators that he wanted to kill them because he heard them speak another language and because, he says, they were gypsies. “I wanted to kill them because they are gypsies. I wanted to kill these gypsies. “He tried to justify himself in front of the police.
The assailant was arrested and will be tried in Nanterre. So far, the French authorities have not released the names of the attacker or the victims.
