“Today we had a first round of consultations with the parties that will be represented in the new Parliament. This first round of consultations generated a good exchange of views between the parties and myself, but I can say that today the conditions for naming a candidate to form a new government are not yet met.
I even got some proposals today, but I think at least one more round of consultations is needed until everything crystallizes.
I intend to convene the new Parliament for December 21, ”said the president.

The consultations take place after the parliamentary elections on December 6, when, according to the final results announced by the Central Electoral Office, the PSD, PNL, USR PLUS Alliance, AUR, UDMR and representatives of national minorities other than the Hungarian entered the the future Legislature.
In accordance with article 103 of the Constitution, the President of Romania appoints a candidate for the post of Prime Minister, after consulting the party that has an absolute majority in Parliament or, if there is no such majority, the parties represented in the Parliament. Parliament.
The candidate for the position of Prime Minister will request, within 10 days of the appointment, the vote of confidence of the Parliament on the program and the entire list of the Government.
