60-70% of the adult population of the country, that is, almost 11 million Romanians, should receive the anti-COVID vaccine to end the coronavirus epidemic, said Dr. Valeriu Gheorghiță, coordinator of the national vaccination campaign against COVID-19. He also announced the launch of a national communication campaign so that the population can receive complete information about the vaccine.

“When we guarantee the vaccination of 60-70% of the adult population, which means almost 11 million people,” the epidemic will be under control, said Dr. Gheorghiță, asked how many Romanians should be vaccinated to stop the coronavirus epidemic.

When this threshold is reached, the level of contagion will decrease greatly and sporadic cases will be registered at most, which will increase the pressure on the medical system, said the coordinator of the vaccination campaign.

It takes about six months from the first dose of the vaccine to reach this level of vaccination, the doctor added, however, setting a condition: “that people go to vaccination centers.”

In this sense, a national information campaign will be launched, through which the population will receive all the necessary information.

“We will communicate in a transparent, honest way,” said Dr. Gheorghiță, specifying that the information is already available on the vaccinare-covid.gov.ro website.

In addition, there will be banners, brochures available in pharmacies, doctors’ offices, as well as an information campaign in the media, starting around December 20.

Large vaccination centers

Dr. Valeriu Gheorghiță also added that vaccination centers in the country are currently being evaluated, in order to ensure that there are no problems in the vaccination chain.

He said that, although he received requests for these centers to be available in medical offices, he continued with the idea of organizing large centers with greater vaccination capacity, so as not to fragment the chain of distribution and administration of vaccines.

In the first phase of the vaccination campaign, aimed at medical personnel, 350 vaccination centers will be organized in hospitals, of which 45 in Bucharest.
