How the negotiations for the Cîțu government failed. PNL demanded responsibility, USR PLUS will propose Cioloș as prime minister

Negotiations for the government ended on Sunday after just two hours because the Liberals refused to waste the entire day like Saturday with the same fruitless discussions about the position of Speaker of the House of Deputies that USR PLUS stubbornly demands for Dan Barna.

The leaders of USR PLUS reiterated that they deserve this position, which must be granted by protocol, not by open vote in the plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies, as proposed on Saturday by Ludovic Orban.

Annoyed, the liberals demanded from USR PLUS “responsibility”, because the country needs a government that works until December 31st.

“We cannot leave the country ungovernable, because we have a pandemic and many aberrant laws given by the PSD that will come into force and by then we must be able to issue emergency ordinances. If you don’t want us to be constructive, let’s not stay for 7 hours like yesterday ”, said the liberals in the Vila Lac negotiations.

The USR PLUS then launched the insinuation that the Liberals would like to rule alone, with PSD support in Parliament, in an attempt to pressure the Liberals to resume talks.

On Monday, the leaders of the two parties head to the Cotroceni Palace for consultations with President Klaus Iohannis, from whom the Liberals hope for a life-saving solution to emerge from the crisis.

USR PLUS will present to the president its own version of the prime minister, Dacian Cioloș, telling them that if Dan Barna is not president of the Chamber of Deputies, they deserve the post of head of government.

The UDMR demanded that the route be banned in Parliament

The leaders of the UDMR demanded in the negotiations that the protocol of the future Coalition be prohibited from recruiting parliamentarians from other parties, so that the PNL cannot change the number of deputies and senators by convincing some of the Opposition to join them.

The USR PLUS supported the UDMR proposal, but the Liberals were not happy with the idea.

Negotiations will resume, party leaders say after Monday’s meeting with President Klaus Iohannis.
