Ialomița County has only AUR senators, as evidenced by the final results of the December 6 parliamentary elections. In this county, PNL and PSD did not obtain any mandate in the upper house of Parliament.
If you walk into Minerva Street in Slobozia, you can’t miss the home of Rodica Boancă, newly elected senator. On the fence hangs a huge banner with the GOLD logo and the message: Justice for Romania. She is a Romanian teacher and has two children.
Rodica Boancă, AUR senator-elect: The entry into this party, in this movement was an eruption, a necessity and a revolt against the current situation. I think we need to get more involved with ordinary people.
Meanwhile, Adrian Costea also appears. Slightly emotional, he tells us that he is a history teacher and does not know how the senator woke up during the night. He confesses that he arrived on the list of candidates at a certain juncture and it never crossed his mind that he could wear the coat of parliament.
Adrian Costea, Senator-elect of AUR: I thought it was just a beautiful experience that I will have to learn from, I did not expect at this age, at 33, to become a senator.
Immediately after the vote, countless voices emerged categorizing AUR as an extremist, nationalist and anti-Western party.
The two senators disagree.
Adrian Costea: meu personally have never had extremist exits or …
Rodica Boancă: We are people with open opinions, not even me, I even taught in the penitentiary, I taught in all schools, all children of all ethnicities.
In Ialomiţa county, the elections were won by PSD, followed by PNL. AUR prevailed in third place. Due to the way in which mandates are distributed and redistributed, the two main parties did not win any senatorial terms.
Marian Pavel, President of PSD Ialomiţa: Think that PSD made 40 percent and out of six MPs we have two. The PNL made 21 percent and of six they have a parliamentarian. IGOLD would make 12 percent in Ialomita and it has 50 percent of the number of parliamentarians, that is, two senators and one deputy. It doesn’t seem fair to me.
Dragoş Soare, President of PNL Ialomiţa: It is really frustrating for the big parties that failed to assign more mandates to the parliamentarians, but this is the result of the vote and we are assumed politicians and we will have to accept it.
Voters’ opinions are divided. While some say they know why AUR was so successful, others have not even heard of this party.
-I think people have penalized the current governmentI due to poor management of the pandemic.
-I don’t realize from where to where, because I haven’t even heard ofI, for this band.
