The Union of Writers is delimited by the statements of Sorin Lavric, leader of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR), who considers that gypsies are a “social plague” and “men do not look to women for intelligence, depth or lucidity “and announce” naturally “that Lavric will no longer be part of the organization.
- We mention that, following his political involvement, Mr. Sorin Lavric’s contractual relationships with the Romanian Writers’ Union and the magazine “Literary Romania” end, naturally and necessarily. As a union of creators in the literary field, the Romanian Writers’ Union is a democratic institution, which brings together writers of all ethnic groups living in our country, whose rights they defend and promote. The union does not pursue a partisan policy, ”according to the statement.
- “We reject any attempt to destroy the democratic framework and any attack on national or religious minorities, etc. and we condemn any form of discrimination. Therefore, we limit ourselves, as a guild, to the statements and political attitudes of Mr. Sorin Lavric, inviting him to reflect on its harmful implications for democracy and the atmosphere in public space, “said the Writers Union.
