The USR PLUS alliance wants “a new beginning” in government, says its co-chair, Dacian Ciolos. He suggests that he no longer wants Ludovic Orban as prime minister and motivates him by the expected result obtained by the NLP in the parliamentary elections on December 6.
“We will go with the proposal we made in the campaign, with the government program and with the prime minister’s proposal, but under the conditions of the electoral result that we saw, due to the need to form a political majority to support a reformist government – and USR PLUS wants to be part of this majority – according to the Constitution, the president is the one who must appoint a prime minister. We will make this proposal, but we will be open to listen to the formula that the president proposes, “said Dacian Cioloș in Digi24.
“Our proposal is to have a prime minister capable of uniting the forces of the right, as long as he is a prime minister who supports the reforms that Romania needs,” he added.
Cioloș also spoke about the challenges generated by the coronavirus pandemic, including at the economic level.
“We need now, not in 6 months, to give Romanians predictability, to tell them how the government thinks to prepare the economy, to prepare the state, which has lost its credibility, to get Romania out of the crisis,” he said. .
When asked if Ludovic Orban is the man who can name the right-wing forces, Cioloș replied: “I think the Romanians gave an answer. Take a look at the results NLP has achieved, what you expected, and what it has achieved. I think we have to get out of here. We need a prime minister who gives hope and who is able to unite the reformist forces. “
“I am sure that the President of Romania thinks the same, in the interest of Romania, in the interest of building a majority, and that he will present a proposal that will go in that direction. Our suggestion is to signal a new beginning, because that is when there are elections, it’s a new beginning, ”he said.
“If the NLP wins the elections without the right to appeal, we could talk: look, he is the man who was in charge of the Government, of the party that won the elections. But we are in a different situation. I do not do the analysis in NLP, the party will decide with what formula it goes, but I am referring to the role of the president of Romania, because the ball is in his court. We are waiting for him to make a prime ministerial proposal, but we have already said what we expect from this government that we want to be part of. Ludovic Orban is not the one around whom all of Romania revolves. We need to build a political majority, that’s what it’s all about. We look forward to a new beginning. “
