Mega Image, Modified by ANPC for “misleading labels” in Zacusca | News, News Romania | Freedom

The chain of stores Mega Imagen was sanctioned because it put up for sale two types of zacusca through which consumer labels are deceived, according to ANPC, according to Adevărul.

Specifically, Consumer Protection fined Mega Image for a “peasant” zacusca and for a “Moldovan zacusca with ghebe”. The ANPC considered that the “zacusca moldava con ghebe”, whose label was written that it is “moldava, from a traditional area”, is in fact an industrial production.

Mega Image responded well

Mega Image appealed the 7,000 lei fine, claiming that the ANPC wrongly considered that the use of the term “peasant” is equivalent to the use of the term “traditional.”

The use of the phrase “peasant” refers to the way vegetables are cut and their size.

At the same time, Mega Image defended itself by claiming that, regarding the product “zacuscă cu ghebe”, ANPC added expressions and words that do not appear on the product’s packaging, such as “Moldavian, from a traditional area”.

Giurgiu’s court cut the fine in half

The fine of 7,000 lei was reduced to 3,500 lei, as the Giurgiu judge considered that in the case of the product “Campesina Zacusca Râureni”, sold by Mega Image, “the consumer was not deceived”.

However, with respect to the product “Zacuscă cu ghebe”, the judge ruled that the label is misleading.

The court finds that the above description of this product is more likely to mislead the consumer.
