Difficult times are approaching, we will expand the alert state. What is the “firm advice” of the authorities for the holidays

The head of the Emergency Situations Department, Raed Arafat, says that there is currently a decrease in coronavirus cases in Romania, but whether or not this trend will continue in the next period depends on the population. A difficult period is approaching, and the danger is that in January-February we will meet again with an aggressive increase in cases, warns the head of DSU.

The government will extend the alert on December 14 and until then will make a new analysis whether or not new restrictions are imposed. However, a total blockade at the national level is excluded. Zone quarantine will remain the preferred one, Raed Arafat told Digi24 on Friday night.

“If we take the 7-day average, we see that there is a decrease and we have to see if it will continue, and that is up to us,” Raed Arafat said.

Why the quarantine does not work in some locations

The quarantine of some towns has paid off, in most cases, Raed Arafat mentioned. “When we look at the localities that were quarantined, all of them showed, even if they had an extended quarantine for another 7 days or in some up to 14 days, that the situation was under control. (…) In Timișoara, it was not put. in quarantine, the surrounding towns were quarantined and this also had an impact on Timișoara and it was seen that in Timișoara there is a decrease. Sibiu also. In Alba, we had to prelude, “said Arafat.

The head of DSU acknowledges, on the other hand, that there are areas where results cannot be seen and says that it is possible for people to move around here without hindrance, filling in false statements at their own risk. “So we have to see why: don’t the rules apply? Quarantine not controlled? Or does everyone write an article on their own where they say they do something and actually go and do something else? “ – Raed Arafat pointed out.

When asked if this strategy will be applied in the coming months, Raed Arafat said: “Even the WHO and the whole world is talking about local, zonal measures, not general, national measures, that is, not national closures, but measures that they focus on the most affected areas, until the problem is resolved there and I suspect that this will be our focus later on. I have not heard from anyone who wants to return to a generalized lockdown, without differentiation, “said the head of DSU.

A further increase is possible in January-February

“But It depends a lot on all of us, because difficult times are coming, winter holidays are coming, people want to walk, want to socialize. Here again, it depends if during this period we agree to reduce mobility, reduce contacts, stay within the close-knit family, with which we live in the house. Then it is possible to avoid a much more serious situation, which will return, although now we lower the figure, but wake up that begins to increase after the holidays, in January-February, “said the head of DSU.

“We remain followers of local, zonal solutions, focused on solving problems where larger outbreaks occur in localities or areas,” said Raed Arafat.

Will new holiday restrictions be introduced?

He said nothing has been discussed so far about the new restrictions introduced for holidays. “It is clear that the measures that we have now will probably continue, that is, wearing a mask and certain measures that are being implemented now, the sanitary measures will be maintained, but again, we have the date of 14 (December), when we will expand the alert status and this will probably happen on the 14th during the next month. We will have an analysis with the INSP and with everyone about the epidemiological situation. It depends on whether we continue to decrease or increase, but at this point I can say that it has not been discussed and there are no intentions to new restrictions ”- said Arafat.

Family parties cannot be prohibited

When asked if the number of people at a private family party could be limited, Raed Arafat said that this is difficult and that although such measures have been taken in other European countries, Romanian law does not allow it. “If we talk about a private meeting in a person’s home, we cannot limit it. We can advise, explain, but we are going to tell someone, at home, that it is not allowed to have more people, there are limitations in this regard,” he said. Arafat.

“Our advice is very firm: during the holidays you should not go beyond bringing more friends, more people in the house, in the apartment. That there are many of us there, we do not respect the basic sanitary standards, if we are from different houses, then clearly we will witness an increase, again, after the holidays ”, concluded Raed Arafat.
