A Romanian shepherd killed two Italian retirees. The reason the Sicilian mafia vowed revenge

Florin Scurtu, a 22-year-old man, has worked for some time for a wealthy Sicilian family that owns several flocks of sheep. Employed as a shepherd, the Romanian one day, at the beginning of June, entered into a conflict with the neighbors who owned a nearby field, the brothers Filippo and Calogero La Monaca.

The two reproached the Romanian for the animals entering their land, and Scurtu did not remain in debt and responded with the same aggressive tone. However, things seemed to calm down on their own, until one day the two brothers found themselves out of breath, 100 meters away.

According to the daily La Repubblica, one of them had his head crushed and the other’s body lay charred at a considerable distance, next to a car.

The gangsters swore revenge

In the first phase, investigators thought it was a mafia-style fight. All the more so since the two brothers were part of an old La Monaca family, a well-known mafia family, not at all unrelated to the violence that occurred in the area since the 1980s and 1990s.

Filippo and Calogero were influential members of a Sicilian clan, which further alarmed police officers who expected a real war between the mafia families in the area.

But the investigation led them to another lead, initially in the background. Thus the violent dispute between the Romanian pastor and the two brothers became known, for which Florin Scurtu was brought to hearings. The Grandangolo portal writes that the Romanian would have admitted his guilt.

In addition, after examining the telephone recordings of the victims and the suspect, but also the images recorded by the video surveillance systems in the town, it was established that the Romanian was present on June 14, 2019 at the crime scene.

He is now accused of the death of his two brothers and is in Caltanissetta prison. But your problems don’t end here. Members of the mafia clan have also announced that they will avenge their deaths, so Scurtu could have other problems in addition to the ones he already has with the Italian judiciary.
