The vaccination strategy against COVID-19 was approved this Thursday at the meeting of the Supreme Council of National Defense, called by President Klaus Iohannis, three days before the parliamentary elections.
The intention was announced on Wednesday by President Klaus Iohannis, who specified the priority groups: medical personnel in residential and medico-social centers, population at high risk of severe evolution in case of infection and personnel in key areas.
“We have a vaccination strategy against COVID, which will be approved in the coming days and we have organized a clear structure: the National Steering Committee for vaccination activities against SARS-CoV-2. All the mechanisms for the supply, storage and involvement of the following resources have been established, as well as the action plan, with clear stages, ”says Klaus Iohannis.
The CSAT meeting took place on Thursday, three days before the parliamentary elections.
Klaus Iohannis: COVID-19 vaccine is “voluntary, safe and effective”
Klaus Iohannis made a press release at the end of his visit to the vaccination center installed in Romexpo. “During the extraordinary meeting of the CSAT, the vaccination strategy against the new coronavirus was approved. We wanted it to be a very well prepared campaign and the strategy is very well worked out. It was previously approved by the Government, and now by CSAT ”, announces President Klaus Iohannis.
The President of Romania announced that, most likely, we will benefit from the first tranche of COVID-19 vaccine (approximately one million doses) early next year.
Priority will be given to medical personnel and people at risk. Iohannis added that vaccination against SARS-CoV-2 is “voluntary, safe and effective.”
“Vaccination is safe, vaccination is effective, vaccination is planned. It is very important to know that these types of vaccines are safe, effective and meet the highest European standards. I discovered that the intention to vaccinate is very high. It seems that already 80% of people in the medical field want to be vaccinated. We may finish this first vaccination campaign for the summer. (…) We are well prepared. We are waiting for the vaccines, “says Iohannis.
The President of Romania declares himself “very satisfied with the work carried out by the Ministry of Health”.
“I cannot wait for the vaccine to arrive and finish this campaign, begin to rebuild, restart the economy and return to normal,” concludes the head of state.
Moving on to the next topic, Klaus Iohannis launched a call for mobilization to vote for the presidential elections: “Go to the polls so that we do not suffer like in 2016, when the PSD won due to low participation and the nightmare of the years continued.
Earlier, President Klaus Iohannis said that mass vaccination of the population could begin in the spring of next year, but that by early 2021 it is quite likely that there will be one or two vaccines available in Romania to immunize medical personnel and people in risk.
“We all start from the premise that mass vaccination can take place sometime in the spring, but it is clear that we have to wait a while to have the exact description of each vaccine so that doctors decide who will be vaccinated because the effect for be optimal ”, declared the head of state.
