Four of the five elders who repeatedly taunted a 10-year-old boy in a village in Neamț County, Gârcina, were arrested on National Day, after the fifth was arrested in early November.

The five men are 61, 66, 75, 81 and 87 years old and the court decided their preventive detention. The youngest of them, Ion Ciudin, was detained on November 10 and investigators have established that the acts alleged against him occurred between 2019-2020.

Taking advantage of the victim’s vulnerability, age-related naivety, but also the precarious economic situation of the family to which he belongs, the old man seduced the minor with small sums of money and allegedly performed oral sex with her.

The first rapist was a church singer.

She was in the village and the girl was allegedly psychologically advised, after the participation of the city council and the investigation carried out by the General Directorate of Social Assistance and Child Protection Neamţ, and at one point, the girl detailed what happened, the author was arrested and charged with continuing rape.

The man, married and father of two children, who went to work in Italy, was a church singer, being dismissed from the position of villager, after an extramarital affair.

The investigation in this case would establish the fact that other people also sexually abused the boy as young as 10 years old. Thus, Ion Balmuș (87 years old), Grigore Țăpuc (81 years old), Petru Trăscăoanu (75 years old) and Ion Măriuța (66 years old) were also detained in preventive detention.

Article 218 of the New Penal Code establishes that sexual, oral or anal relations with a person, committed by coercion, inability to defend himself or express his will or take advantage of this condition, will be punished with imprisonment from 3 to 10 years and prohibition to exercise certain rights. However, if the victim is a minor, the penalty is between 5 and 12 years.
