Prime Minister Ludovic Orban claims that after a period of rapid growth in the number of infections, for two weeks we were on a plateau and now for about 8 days we have entered a downward trend.

“We had a period of quite rapid growth, then a period of about two weeks of plateau, and for 8 days we have a downward trend. In the last 7 days, in 5 out of 7, the number of people cured exceeded that of the infected. I guarantee 100% that there will be no blockade, Romania cannot afford it, whoever says something like that, lies in the campaign. The president also made it very clear. There is no problem, “said Prime Minister Ludovic Orban.

According to him, the measures imposed by the authorities to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus, at the local and regional level, are giving results, and this can be seen in Constanța, where the quarantine was imposed.

“We already have a set of measures that we apply at the local, county level, which we apply where there is accelerated growth. We put Constana in quarantine and we can already see a cap, the decrease will continue,” Ludovic Orban also said.

The prime minister also specified that the number of tests carried out these days to detect infections with the new coronavirus has decreased due to the days off, granted on the occasion of the legal holidays of San Andrés and the National Day.

“It is true that fewer tests were done because there were days off and not all the test centers were operational, but the test activity resumes from today under more normal conditions, depending on the test requests,” the prime minister added.

What about the markets

In this context, Ludovic Orban announced that the opening of the agri-food markets will be proposed in the Emergency Situations Committee that will meet on Thursday, December 3.

“The legal procedure for opening the markets is as follows: it is proposed tomorrow in the Emergency Situations Committee, where we will discuss some measures for the elections. (…) We made the decision to close the markets at a time when there was a very high growth trend, some said that we would reach 25,000 cases. There, of all the analyzes, we had the lowest rate of compliance with health protection regulations. The market administrators, due to some agreements they have with the sellers, did not respect the rules ”, Ludovic Orban specified.

President Klaus Iohannis said on Wednesday (December 2) that he will call for the reopening of closed markets, amid a drop in the number of new cases in the last week, but that drop is also the result of a much smaller number of tests.

“We discussed these things with specialists, with experts and we decided that from the end of this week the markets will reopen. It is certainly good news for producers who want to sell in the markets, but also for Romanians who want to stock up in time for the winter holidays, ”said Klaus Iohannis.
